We recently moved from our very large 4 bed room house to a 2 bed room cabin. As a result I had to down size – A LOT. My regular study table was way to large. Luckily my parents had an old kitchen table laying around. Due to neglect the table needed some serious TLC…
With the help of my loving husband we made the table sturdy again with a few strategically placed screws.
I filled up some of the cracks and holes with white wood filler. Due to the time it spent out doors the wood had formed natural ridges and crevices and darkened the original stain. I sanded off most of the access wood filler and painted the first coat of my favorite chalk paint.
Using my electrical sander I gave it a proper shake down to expose some of the ridges, darker stains and the wood filler, as well as to level some of the edges and higher ridges. I love the idea of having multiple colours with out actually having to paint multiple colours. At this stage I did not bother too much with the legs I gave it one good coat of paint, this was fine for now.
The very nice thing about chalk paint is that it has a very nice consistency that hides minor imperfections and damage. I then filled up some of the still very visible and unsightly imperfections with the white wood filler again, and lightly sanded the access off after it was dry. Then it was time for the final coat of paint.
I allowed it to dry properly and the got to work on my favorite part…. the final sanding (or distressing – how ever you want to call it). It is very messy but definitely worth it! I then topped it of with wax and…. TA DA
